CHICAGO SCENE – on the road: Looking for a romantic weekend getaway? Don’t just stay in, get out and explore the landscape that features world-class snow sculptures, a candle bar, tantalizing hovercraft rides across a frozen lake, dine at historic PIER 290 marina and uncover the storied history of one of the only remaining organizations that still delivers the mail via boat. We’re up north in Lake Geneva.
Some of the places we discovered:
Cozy up to the warm fires in one of the most unique spots in all of Lake Geneva. Maxwell Mansion 1856 was the first mansion built in Lake Geneva and has long been host to dignitaries and socialites throughout its history. The entire estate along with all its buildings have undergone a complete metamorphosis retaining its original character yet exploding with excitement of the new, the unique and the unexpected. Don’t forget the apothecary bar and speakeasy for a reminder of a time long ago when Maxwell Mansion was roaring along with the rest of the ’20s.
