We asked Dawn Jackson Blatner, registered dietician and nutritionist about how we can boost our memory with food and she had a few suggestions:
- Cruciferous Veggies & Leafy Greens
Dawn says: “We know that people who eat vegetables have a better memory than non-vegetable eaters but the best are cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower and broccoli and things like spinach or kale that everyday can definitely keep your memory sharper.”
Dawn says: “when you eat berries regularly, so you know maybe every day or every other day, your brain acts two and a half years younger.
- Healthy Fats
Dawn says: “Omega 3 fats help focus, so fish like salmon or tuna. Walnuts also have that similar type of fat that fish has. “
Dawn says: “They give a slow release of after you eat them and then the sugar helps fuel your brain and it also has a B Vitamin in there called Folate which is good for brain cell health.”
Dawn says: “About 16 ounces is what your goal is before noon and coffee can be a memory enhancer. Only in the morning, otherwise it starts affecting your sleep quality and remember sleep is very good for memory.”
