It’s an ambush makeover … pantry edition! Jane teamed up with local health coach Amanda Skrip and left no shelf unturned. The result? A go-to guide on the good, the bad, and the ugly hiding out in your pantry.

Amanda says your plan of attack can be simple if you stick to these three rules:

  1. Ditch the “Diet”: Diet soda and diet cakes and candies all need to go. “The artificial sweetener in there is actually going to increase your cravings for sugar and other sweets,” Amanda says.
  2. Make a Swap: Peanut butter is a staple in many pantries but this is one item it’s important to upgrade. “A lot of conventional peanut butters have high fructose corn syrup, added sugars and trans fats,” she say. Swap conventional brands out with an organic, natural variety.
  3. Add a Pantry Staple: Amanda says every pantry should have coconut oil stocked. “It’s rich in medium chain fatty acids so it burns as energy rather than stores it as fat,” she says. An added bonus: it’s versatile cooking and baking oil (and can even be used in some beauty regimens).
