  • 2 dead in weekend shootings

    Shootings across Chicago claimed at least two lives this weekend. The most recent happened in the 1000 block of North Saint Louis, around 11:30 Saturday night. Two men were shot on the sidewalk. One was pronounced dead at the scene. The other fatal shooting happened in the 2900 block of South State Street. Two men were shot there, and one of them later died at the hospital.

  • 3 shot in Cicero during argument

    Three people were shot early this morning in front of a home in Cicero. A spokesperson for the Town of Cicero say two homes were throwing separate parties next door to each other in the 1400 block of Austing Blvd.  Attendees from the parties got into a verbal argument that broke up quickly.   • “Faux gay weddings” at Northalsted Market Days

    The annual “Northalsted Market Days” street festival took place on Halsted between Belmont and Addison this weekend. This year, some politicians took the opportunity to make a statement on same-sex marriage. Congressman Mike Quigley and Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon united couples in what they called “faux gay weddings.” Both politicians have supported making same-sex marriage legal. The Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago organized the symbolic ceremonies to promote marriage equality.

  • 2nd suspect charged in murder of woman, 5-year-old son

    Police announced they’ve arrested a second suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman and her five-year-old son that took place in June. Larry Cox is charged with murder. He’s accused of participating in the shooting that killed Chavonne Brown and her five-year-old son, Sterling Sims, on June 28th. Another suspect, Antonio Lewis, remains in the hospital. Police found him on a West Side street with multiple gunshot wounds, the night after the shooting.

  • Police memorial vandalized near Soldier Field

    Police are looking for the vandals who spray-painted a memorial to fallen officers. The “Gold Star Families Memorial” is just east of Soldier Field, in the 1400 block of South Museum Campus Drive. Police put out an alert after someone tagged it with black spray-paint early Saturday morning. The memorial honors officers who were killed or injured in the line of duty, and their families.

  • Robbers impersonated police on I-57

    Two people impersonating police officers robbed a man on I-57. It happened 12:30 p.m. Wednesday , near Route 30. The victim says a white Chevy Tahoe flashed its lights and pulled him over. He says two men got out of the vehicle, and it appeared they had something around their necks. They claimed to be police officers, and took his wallet, including money and identification.   • Chicago’s first medicinal marijuana clinic opens

    Chicago’s first medicinal marijuana clinic was set to start accepting patients in Wicker Park Wednesday morning. Governor Quinn made medicinal pot legal last Thursday, but the law won’t take effect until January 1st. However, patients must have an existing relationship with the doctor who writes their prescription. The president of “Good Intentions Clinic” on North Ashland Avenue says her doctors will help patients who may not have a primary care physician, or whose physician won’t prescribe marijuana.

  • First hearing for lawmakers’ suit against Governor Quinn

    A judge was expected to hear state lawmakers’ lawsuit against Governor Quinn for the first time Tuesday morning. The governor used a line-item veto last week to cancel lawmakers’ salaries until they deliver a solution to the state’s pension crisis. House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton, both Democrats like Quinn, have asked a judge to file an injunction against the veto, immediately restoring their salaries plus interest.

  • Man shot to death in front of family at Joliet restaurant

    A man is accused of murdering another man in front of his wife and two daughters at a restaurant in Joliet. “Louis Family Restaurant” on Jefferson Street opened at its regular time Sunday, one day after the fatal shooting. Witnesses say Gerardo Franchini was sitting at a table with his family Saturday when he got into an argument with another patron, Christopher Thompson.   • No foul play suspected in death of woman on Texas roller coaster

    A woman died while riding a roller coaster at a Six Flags in Arlington, Texas Friday. It happened on the ride known as the “Texas Giant.” Authorities have ruled out foul play. A witness who was next in line, reports seeing the cars return with an empty seat. He says a man was shouting that his mother had fallen off.
