  • Winter parking ban goes into effect today

    The city’s winter overnight parking ban is officially in effect. The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation posted flyers this past week to let drivers know the winter overnight parking ban begins on Sunday at 3 a.m. It covers 107 miles of city streets until next April, regardless of snow. Car owners who violate the ban will have their cars towed and will get a $60 ticket. Last year on December 1, 301 vehicles were towed for violating the ban.

    A man was killed and his pregnant girlfriend wounded during an early morning shooting in East Chicago Indiana, according to police. Rolando Cuevas, 23, was fatally shot around 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning. East Chicago police said members of Cuevas’ former gang are suspected of opening his bedroom window and firing a flurry of shots at him and his 20-year-old girlfriend who is 8-months pregnant.     A Will County judge Saturday set bond at $400,000 for a Joliet man facing attempted murder and shoplifting charges following an incident at a Kohl’s department store in Romeoville on Friday. Robert Russell Jr., 51, is charged with attempted murder, obstructing an officer and shoplifting following an incident that injured a Romeoville police officer who was dragged by a car in which Russell was riding.
