Courtney Spinelli

Courtney joined the WGN News team in November 2022 as a reporter.  Prior to WGN-TV, Spinelli spent two years at FOX59 and CBS4 News in Indianapolis, where she was a reporter and fill-in anchor. During her time there, Spinelli focused on helping countless families impacted by violent crime, served as an affiliate reporter for the Indy 500, and volunteered to help survivors of domestic violence during her free time. She is proud to be part of a weekend team that earned an Emmy nomination for their coverage of several major breaking stories in a newscast.

In 2019, Spinelli joined the NBC affiliate station in Davenport, Iowa as an investigative reporter and weekend evening anchor. While in the Quad Cities, Spinelli contributed several stories to a team entry that earned an Edward R. Murrow award for Overall Excellence and was recognized by the Iowa Broadcast News Awards for her continuing coverage on litigation following a deadly explosion at a food processing plant.

Spinelli began her career in the Boston area, working for several years as an assignment editor at the FOX affiliate. She earned an Emmy nomination in 2017 for her contribution to an investigative report uncovering ambulance and staffing shortages in Boston’s EMS division.

Born and raised just north of Boston, Spinelli discovered her passion for journalism at a young age. She is especially passionate about helping others in their pursuit for justice. Spinelli graduated from Worcester State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication, with a concentration in broadcast journalism.
