Gunman kills man, 22, after attempting to carjack him in Logan Square

CHICAGO — A 22-year-old man was shot and killed during an attempted carjacking in Logan Square.

The man has been identified by friends and family as Alexis Andrade, they say he was trying to protect his fiance who was with him when the carjacking happened.

Andrade had arrived at his fiance's house in the 3000 block of North Kimball Avenue Sunday night to take her to work.

Shortly after the couple got into his grey Dodge Challenger a man approached the passenger side, showed a gun and ordered Andrade to get out of the car and leave his keys in the ignition.

Police say when the alleged carjacker tried to force his fiance out of the car, that's when Andrade confronted the suspect and they got into a fight.

Andrade was shot three times in the arm, chest and forehead.

Andrade was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The offender fled the scene in a dark van with tinted windows.

His fiancée was not injured.
