CHICAGO —Singer R. Kelly is now in federal custody in Chicago and faces new sex trafficking allegations.

The 52-year-old was arrested Thursday night outside his home at Trump Tower, reportedly while walking his dog.

New York City Detectives and Homeland Security made the arrest based on a new 13-count indictment returned in the Northern District of Illinois, naming Robert Sylvester Kelly. Included are charges of child pornography and obstruction of justice.

Kelly's attorney Steve Greenberg said his client was aware of the investigations, and that the charges were not a surprise. In a statement, he said the conduct Kelly has been charged with in federal court "appears to largely be the same" as what he is charged with in state court.

Greenberg said a bail hearing will be held early next weeks where Kelly hopes to be released from custody.

Kelly already faces multiple counts of criminal sexual assault in Cook County, and has been out on bond after pleading not guilty.

Kelly was acquitted in a Cook County trial back in 2008, but new allegations and videos have surfaced since then, amid new scrutiny prompted by the documentary series “Surviving R. Kelly."

There are indications that Kelly may be transferred to New York to due this new case.

Kelly’s publicist Darrell Johnson is planning to hold a news conference in Atlanta at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Federal officials are expected to reveal more details on the 13-count indictment Friday.
