No injuries in South Side gas leak

CHICAGO — The Chicago Fire Department said a hazmat situation on the Far South Side has now been secured.

A construction crew hit a gas main just before 9 a.m. Thursday in the 600 block of East 91st Place.

The main ruptured, so homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

The school nearby was put on lockdown also as a precaution.

There were no injuries.
