BEVERLY SHORES, Ind. — A prisoner who escaped from the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City was captured about four miles away from the prison.
Travis Hornett, 39, was found around midnight Thursday at a vacant home he had broken into in Beverly Shores. He surrendered to police without resistance.
There were no injuries during the recapture.
Hornett had a backpack with him when he was captured ,and police said they are unsure of how he got the backpack. They believe he may have gotten it from one of the local beaches in the area.
Indiana State Police Detective Mike Bailey asked that anyone who may be missing the backpack and its contents to call him at 219-690-0039.
Hornett broke out of the prison during a work detail on prison grounds Wednesday afternoon.
Hornett, who is originally from Waterloo, had been serving a five year sentence for burglary.
