Palatine cop saves driver who crashed into building

PALATINE, Ill. — A Palatine police officer improvised Friday afternoon to save a life.

A 48-year-old man driving through the Deer Grove Centre parking lot crashed his car through the wall of a vacant business, trapping him inside.

The car caught fire but police were unable to get him out.

So the officer borrowed a tow strap from a witness at the scene and pulled the vehicle free.

The driver was taken to Lutheran General Hospital for burn treatment.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
