Read the full transcript from Jussie Smollett’s court appearance

CHICAGO — WGN has obtained the transcript from Jussie Smollett’s Tuesday court appearance in which Cook County prosecutors dropped all charges.

He had been charged with 16 counts of disorderly conduct after Chicago police say he staged a racial and homophobic attack in the city in January. Those charges will be now be wiped from Smollett’s record.

The transcript is very short — only five pages.  You can read it in the gallery above.

The court proceeding begins with Assistant State’s Attorney Risa Lanier telling Judge Steven G. Watkins a motion was filed to “advance the matter.” Smollett’s next court date had been set for April 17, but this motion by prosecutors moved the court date to March 26.

Lanier then tells the judge: “After reviewing the facts and circumstances of the case, including  Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, the State’s motion in regards to the indictment is nolle pros. We believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution in this case.”

“Nolle pros” essentially means that the case will be dropped.

Lanier also tells the judge she has an order from the Clerk of the Circuit Court to release the bond amount to the City of Chicago. That bond was $10,000.

Smollett’s attorney Patricia Brown Holmes agrees with Lanier and then asks “that the Court immediately seals the records.
