Judge delays ruling on R. Kelly’s request to fly to Dubai

CHICAGO — R. Kelly's attorney asked a Cook County judge to hold off on his request to travel to Dubai for several concerts next month.

Attorney Steven Greenberg said he wanted to provide additional information to the judge.

Kelly faces trial for sexually abusing a woman and three girls. In the past couple of months he has been jailed twice — first on a sex abuse charge, then for failure to pay child support.

One bond condition was that Kelly not travel outside Illinois unless he got the judge's permission. Kelly says the Dubai concerts would help him raise money for those child support payments.

The judge scheduled Kelly's next hearing for May 7, which would be after the April concerts. So it's not clear when the judge would make the travel decision.
