Video shows 11-year-old boy being rescued from icy Naperville retention pond

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — First responders rescued an 11-year-old boy who fell through an icy suburban Chicago retention pond.

Naperville fire and police responded Sunday afternoon after receiving a 911 call reporting that a child had fallen through the ice at a pond near an apartment complex. Officials say the boy was able to communicate with rescue workers and told them his feet were stuck in the muddy bottom of the pond.

Video of the rescue shows first responders throwing the boy a neon orange rescue disc attached to a rope. The boy is wearing a coat and hat. He swims to the disc and grabs it as workers pull him to shore with the help of a diver who entered the icy water.

The boy was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
