Mild air hits with wind and rain Thursday

Low pressure dominated much of the eastern two-thirds of the nation Thursday. Here temperatures rose into the 50s for the first time this month. Winds gusted above 50 mph hitting 54 mph at Pontiac and rainfall ranged from ½ to ¾ inch.

The same storm system spawned severe thunderstorms and a tornado in Texas and triggered flood warnings in the southeast. Back to our northwest, winter storm and blizzard warnings were up for Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas into Minnesota with Finland, MN reporting 18 inches of snow by evening.

As low pressure departs to the east, cold northwest winds and snow flurries will follow into our area Friday. Fair skies are expected through the weekend with rain spreading into our area Monday followed by much colder temperatures beginning New Year’s Day into mid week.
