Northwestern hospital breaks its own record for successful heart transplants

CHICAGO — Northwestern Memorial Hospital broke a statewide record for the most heart transplants performed.

In 1995, the hospital set a record when it performed 45.

A quarter century later, Northwestern’s cardiac surgery team celebrated a new record with  54 transplants and a high survival rate.

Despite education and medical intervention, heart disease remains the number one  killer in this country.
