CHICAGO —Brothers Michael and Jeffrey Gentile describe their childhood as a cross between “The Wonder Years” and “The Sopranos.”

While they say their dad never got into a life of crime, his friends did. Members of the mob would regularly come over for dinner, and they knew some of the Outfit’s most notorious bosses by name.

While many Americans are fascinated with the mob as shown on the big screen, they saw it in person, and documented their run-ins with infamous mobsters and America’s biggest celebrities in their new family memoir “Mob Adjacent.”

Larry Potash explores their backstory.
