1 worker killed, 1 hurt when beam falls at Evanston construction site

EVANSTON, Ill. ā€” One iron worker was killed and another injured when a beam fell at an Evanston construction site Tuesday morning.

The incident happened about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of Emerson Street. Officials said the workers were unloading heavy iron support columns when one broke loose and crashed to the ground. One worker had to be pulled out from under a column; both were rushed to Evanston Hospital.

A 55-year-old man was killed. A 27-year-old man was injured in his leg.

Safety regulators investigated Tuesday.
