Boy’s foot partially severed by train on South Side

CHICAGO –  An 11-year-old boy’s right foot was partially severed when he tried to retrieve a football from train tracks Wednesday.

Police said boy was struck by a train near 87th Street and S Dauphin around 3:30 p.m.

It is not clear whether it was a Metra Electric or Canadian National Freight Train.

The boy is being treated at Comer Children’s Hospital.
