Boy, 14, in critical condition after firework explodes in his face

CHICAGO — A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition after a firework exploded in his face on the Far South Side.

The incident happened about 8 p.m. Thursday as the boy lit a firework in the 10800 block of South Avenue G, according to the Chicago Police Department.

He suffered severe facial trauma and was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
