Severe weather causes Naperville Ribfest to close, reopen

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Weather was not cooperating with Naperville's Ribfest on Thursday.

Gates reopened Thursday night around 6:30 p.m. after the park was evacuated for about two hours due to the threat of severe weather.

The fireworks show was cancelled Wednesday night after heavy rain and lightning pounded the grounds. The shoe was rescheduled for Thursday at 10 p.m.

The festival announced that they wanted to thank the crowds by offering discounted prices for Friday and Saturday.

The park also closed around 1:30 p.m. due to the threat of severe weather.

The festival also had problems on Wednesday, July Fourth with weather.

Around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, the fest announced the park was temporarily closed due to the threat of severe weather and lighting. It reopened again at 7:30 p.m., but it wasn't long before organizers were forced to call off the fireworks.
