CHICAGO -- Parishioners from a group of South Side churches celebrated Father's Day with an outdoor prayer vigil.

Church leaders say they hold the annual event to remind people that African American men are active in the community. They say it's important to demonstrate to children that their fathers are there for them and love them.

The group also prayed for the end of violence in the community, good health, and financial security.
