ComEd’s Ice Box Derby contestants stop by WGN’s morning news

ComEd's Ice Box Derby is a competition that encourages young girls in the Chicagoland to be involved in the STEM workforce. A couple Ice Box Derby contestants shared their experiences in the program with WGN Morning News.

STEM stars can come from anywhere, and they can change the world! Here are some of the faces from the ComEd Icebox Derby telling their stories. Thanks to ComEd, girls from all over Chicagoland are getting hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering, and math.

A representative from 2017’s winning Icebox Derby team visits with Mike Toomey to talk about her experience with the event. ComEd developed the Icebox Derby in an effort to help close the gender gap in STEM industries (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Girls from all over Chicagoland come together to construct and race cars built from old refrigerators!
