SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Suburban park district employees were honored Thursday night for saving a man’s life at a gym.
One week ago, 58-year-old Chris Taylor was playing basketball like he does every Tuesday and Thursday at the Meineke Rec Center in Schaumburg.
Austin Keating was working at the front desk.
“All of a sudden, someone came up running to the front desk and said ‘Call 911,’” Keating said.
Keating and David Kinnard jumped into action and their training kicked in. They started CPR.
Taylor suffered a massive heart attack. Doctors told him he had a 95 percent blockage and a leaky valve.
“If it wasn't for Austin and Dave and their efforts I wouldn't be here probably,” Taylor said at the ceremony.
He says he's feeling good and is back at work. He's looking forward to meeting his second grandchild. His daughter is due, next month.
