CHICAGO -- Chicago experienced its most violent week of the year so far.
Data collected by the Chicago Tribune, shows at least nine people have been killed and 76 others wounded in shootings, including a 4-year-old. The shootings all took place in the past seven days.
In an email to WGN News, a spokesman for Chicago police said gun violence is down significantly citywide, but he says this weekend shows the continued challenges facing CPD and the community. He says they have been analyzing incidents in realtime and have adjusted police deployments in Area North and Area South.
Mayor Emanuel held two public events Monday but did not take questions about the shootings.
