MALTA, Ill. — Authorities say firefighters found the bodies of a man and his wife after extinguishing a fire at the couple’s DeKalb County farm.

The (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle say the bodies of 74-year-old William M. Kreda and 75-year-old Marjory Kreda were discovered inside their house in the community of Malta early Sunday.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says the fire was reported shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday by a motorist who spotted flames south of Interstate 88. When firefighters arrived, the barn was fully engulfed and the house was on fire. It took about a half hour for firefighters from several area communities to bring the fire under control.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing and autopsies will be conducted to determine how the couple died.
