3 CTA workers injured in transformer fire

CHICAGO - Three CTA workers were injured, two critically, Tuesday after a transformer blew at a substation.

The ComEd substation is located at 10 East Lake Street feeds electricity to the CTA.

The workers were doing maintenance there when a transformer blew creating something called an arc blast. It’s was explained as similar to a lightning bolt coming out of the transformer causing a flash fire.

CTA service was not disrupted.

OSHA is expected to examine the scene to ensure there were no safety violations.

The workers were taken to the hospital.
