CHICAGO — A person was killed in a Northwest Side fire Monday morning.
The fire broke out on the third story of a building in the 3200 block of West Olive Avenue, according to the Chicago Fire Department just after 9 a.m.
Neighbor Nader Spalih noticed smoke and another man rushed inside to get others out. They ended up rescuing a woman and her twins from the second floor, but the smoke kept them from going any higher.
The fire department arrived and while searching the apartment where the fire started, they found a man inside. They pulled him out and performed CPR before rushing him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The name of the man who died has not been released. Neighbors say was in his 50s and was renting the apartment and had lived here for about six years.
A firefighter was injured and suffered a minor injury to his shoulder. He is expected to be ok.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
