MATTESON, Ill. — Police in south suburban Matteson are asking for the public’s help after a woman was found dead inside a van.
Joanie Balogun, 37, was found slumped over in the drivers’ seat of a van late Thursday night on a busy stretch of Cicero Ave.
There were five bullet holes in the van. Balogun had been hit twice.
“It’s beyond us. We’re at a loss for words,” said Anthony Larkins, the victim’s brother. ”So we’re looking for the public to help us.”
Police say they found five shell casings about 100 yards down the road from the spot in the median where the van came to rest.
Relatives say the victim worked as a driver for Uber and Lyft. They believe the shooting was random. Balogun leaves behind a husband and three children."
“My sister was very loving. She had the biggest heart. She loved her family,” said Keayona Larkins the victim’s sister. “If anybody can, please just call police. … That would be greatly appreciated. And we can get closure.”
Police are hoping the public can provide information to help track down a vehicle they believe was near the scene around the time of the shooting. They believe is may be a dark grey four-door sedan with heavily-tinted windows. It may be a Chevy Malibu or something similar.
Anyone who might have information is being asked to call police.
