Woman sexually assaulted in Lakeview home invasion

CHICAGO — A 24-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Lakeview late Thursday after a man followed her into her apartment complex.

The attack happened in the 3900 block of North Fremont Street, according to the Chicago Police Department. Neighbor Conner Ahnen said she heard screaming about 9 p.m. and called 911.

According to authorities, the victim noticed her attacker standing outside the courtyard of her residence. He followed her inside the building, where he proceeded to choke and sexually assault the woman before fleeing with her purse.

Police describe the suspect as a black man in his 20s who is 6-foot-2 and roughly 190 pounds. He wore dark clothing.

There are no cameras in the building.

No one was in custody.
