CHICAGO — Parts of Lake Shore Drive could flood this weekend as wind and rain whip across Lake Michigan.

The National Weather Service has issued a lakeshore flood warning through 10 a.m. Sunday for Cook and Lake counties. Strong northeast winds could create waves 12 to 18 feet high, the service said.

Those waves, paired with elevated lake levels, could create flooding along Lake Shore Drive north of the Oak Street curve and along the bike path in Chicago.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue overnight Saturday into Sunday. Sunday will bring unseasonably cold and blustery conditions; rain could change to wet snow by Sunday evening.
