CHICAGO -- A 46-year-old man was shot through his front door during a robbery attempt on the city's South Side.

The incident happened just before 11 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of West 44th Street in the Canaryville neighborhood.

The homeowner tells police a man and woman tried to gain entry into the home, but he slammed the door on them.

The man then fired his gun at the door, shooting right through it. It left a hole in the door, and shattered the glass.

The woman and gunman then fled the scene.

The victim was shot once in the chest and twice in the right arm and is in serious condition.

Police recovered a gun not far away, at 45th and Wentworth, but there's no sign of the shooter or his accomplice.
