BARTLETT, Ill. — An SUV rolled over and crashed into a utility pole on U.S. Route 20 in Bartlett Sunday afternoon, killing the driver and a passenger while injuring five others, according to police.

In a statement, the Bartlett Police Department said the driver lost control of the 2005 Ford Escape while traveling westbound on U.S. 20 around 12:45 p.m. Sunday, causing it to rollover, leave the road, and collide with a ComEd utility pole.

The 25-year male driver and a 31-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Five other passengers were transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin and St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates in critical condition.

Parts of U.S. Route 20 remain closed between Route 59 and Naperville Road while police investigate the crash.
