Man taken into custody after barricade situation; Red Line trains resume service

CHICAGO – A man was taken into custody after a barricade situation on the city’s North Side that caused CTA Red Line trains to suspend service.

Police and SWAT teams responded to the 4000 block of North Kenmore Avenue around 1:30 p.m. after an armed man barricaded himself inside a residence.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the man was taken into custody without incident around 2:45 p.m.

Police were trying to evict the man, who is hearing impaired, when he pulled out a gun and started saying he was going to shoot people, the Tribune said.

The police activity caused Red Line trains to stop between Wilson and Addison. Service resumed around 3 p.m.
