CHICAGO — Police issued a community alert Saturday after at least four people were carjacked at gunpoint in Garfield Park.

In each incident, the attackers were armed with a handgun and metal pipe, police said. Suspects demanded personal property before stealing a car; at least one victim was struck. The attacks happened:

  • about 1:55 a.m. March 23 in the 4200 block of West Madison Street
  • about 3:30 a.m. March 27 in the 400 block of South Pulaski Road
  • about 3 p.m. March 29 in the 4600 block of West Van Buren Street
  • and about 2 a.m. March 30 in the 4700 block of West Van Buren Street.

Police said there were one to five suspects in each incident. They were described as black men in their late teens. In one attack, the victim reported seeing a heavy-set man in a green sweater accompanied by another man with a slim build.

Suspects have approached victims in an “Astrovan” van or blue car with round tail lights and a dealer’s license plate, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8263.
