CHICAGO — One of the few remaining conservative Democrats in Congress managed to fend off a fierce challenge from the left.

3rd District Congressman Daniel Lipinski has won the primary race, narrowly defeating progressive businesswoman Marie Newman by just two points –51 to 49 percent.

Newman still has not conceded.

Lipinski will face Republican Arthur Jones in November.
