MARKHAM, Ill. — Two young children who were the subject of an Amber Alert late Wednesday have been found safe, police said Thursday.

The kids' mother, 27-year-old Lakisha Roby, was shot to death. Their father, Lynn Washington, is considered a "person of interest" in the case, according to Markham Police Chief Mack Sanders. Washington was still missing as of Thursday evening.

Police said the children were found Thursday at their paternal grandmother's home. Sanders said the children appeared to be okay.

Roby was seen arguing with Washington after leaving a club with another man before she was killed, Sanders said. The police chief stressed that authorities aren't calling Washington a suspect. He currently wanted for questioning. Sanders said Washington — who picked up the children from a friend — is barred from contacting the kids by a court order.

Roby obtained the order of protection after citing abuse by Washington.
