Illinois Senate approves medical marijuana bill

CHICAGO — Illinois now has one more use for medical marijuana.

A Cook County judge just ordered that doctors include severe pain as a justification for prescribing marijuana to their patients.

The ruling could expand access to medical pot.

The state health department says pain that doesn’t respond to traditional treatment, should not entitle a patient to use pot.

The department will appeal the judge’s ruling.
