CHICAGO -- Emergency crews were called to the scene of a hazmat situation at a meat packing plant, The Chicago Meat Authority at 1120 W. 47th Place Wednesday morning.
Chicago fire officials say 17 people were transported to area hospitals. One person refused transport.
The morning scare was due to a mechanical failure in the refrigeration process.
Workers were complaining of respiratory problems and in some cases, even heart pain.
Fire officials say there was a carbon dioxide leak at the facility, but everything has returned to normal levels.
Everyone is feeling much better and is expected to recover.
