WINNETKA, Ill. – No one was injured after a car crashed into a suburban nail salon on Thursday.

A car crashed into Grace Nails on the 1000 block of Green Bay Road in Winnetka, Ill., around 4 p.m.

The car plowed right through the front of the salon and kept going into what used to be a restaurant space next door.

“[The driver] didn’t hit the brakes at all. There are no skid marks anywhere. So, I mean, he went past there. He must’ve been going 40,” Ellis Reed, a witness, said.

The driver said it was a mechanical issue with his Toyota Coupe. He said as he was driving, the engine suddenly revved out of control. Some Toyotas have been the subject of a recall for sudden acceleration.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. No charges have been filed.

Justin Kim and his wife have owed the salon for about five years. He wasn’t there when the crash happened but his first thought was his employees who all escaped injury.

Kim has another location five minutes from the location that was hit, so he hopes the repair won’t hit his business too hard.

The owner is also learning what loyalty is as he fields calls from devoted customers.

“A lot of people called already to let me know that they’re with us and if we need any help, they’re willing to help me or help us,” Kim said.
