CHICAGO -- Thousands pedaled their way down Lake Shore Drive for Bike the Drive Sunday.

No cars were allowed on the scenic route during the morning hours until police reopened them around 11 a.m. Sunday.

The annual event raises money for the Active Transportation Alliance, which advocates for improved city bike trails and walkways.

A new addition this year was the 30 Mile Challenge, which encouraged cyclists to track their progress via an app.
