3 killed in crash involving semi in La Porte County, Indiana

ROLLING PRAIRIE, Ind. — Three people were killed in a crash involving a semi tractor-trailer in northwest Indiana Friday morning.

It happened at about 7 a.m. on US 20 at CR 300 E, which is about one mile west of Rolling Prairie, Ind. Closures remain in effect for the area.

According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle was traveling west on US 20 and the semi was traveling east when the accident happened. At the time of the crash, the weather in the area was poor with freezing rain, sleet and temperatures near freezing.

All three people who died were occupants of the car. Their names have not been released.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. More information is expected Friday afternoon at a police news conference.
