Day care worker struck in face by stray bullet in south suburb

CALUMET CITY, Ill. –  A day care worker was struck by a stray bullet Monday afternoon in Calumet City.

Police say a fight began in a convenience store in the 1600 block of Dolton Rd around 5 p.m.

Witnesses say two to three men were arguing and shots were fired. The suspects took the fight outside and continued shooting.

One of the shots pierced the window of the nearby day care center. Community activist Andrew Holmes says there as many as 40 kids in the center at the time of the shooting.

Holmes says the 46-year-old employee was struck in the face and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

So far there are no arrests. Police are investigating.
