GREENWICH, NY -- A 12-year-old boy died after getting buried in a snowbank while sledding.

It happened Tuesday in the small town of Greenwich, New York -- north of Albany.

Police, who were looking for two the 12-year-old boys after they were reported missing, spotted part of a sled sticking out of the snowbank.

After digging frantically with shovels and their bare hands, they found the boys, but one was unresponsive and could not be revived.

The other was treated at a hospital for hypothermia.  He told police he heard a truck in the area as they were digging the fort, then everything went dark.

Investigators are determining if a public works truck plowed more snow onto the pile burying the boys, or if the pile collapsed on them as they dug a fort.
