CHICAGO -- At least six people have been shot and at least three have been killed Monday, following what has already been a violent few days in Chicago.

Two people were found shot to death in a car in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood Monday evening.

68 people were shot, 8 people killed over the Thanksgiving weekend a huge increase from last year when 20 people were shot over the same period.

Police cordoned off a city block around a crashed car on the sidewalk near S. Wolcott Ave. and 45th St. Monday evening, placing sheets over the vehicle to conceal the bodies. A witness said the car crashed after several shots were fired.

"I heard like 12 gunshots, probably like an AK-47," said 18-year-old witness Ernando Ramirez, who was on his way home from the dentist when he heard shots and then witnessed this car crash.

"I saw a car crash and police wasn’t there, so I tried to check out what’s going on, I got kind of close to the car, [and] saw two bodies filled with blood," Ramirez said.

Police say they found two males dead in the vehicle around 6:15 p.m. Monday, but it’s unclear whether they're teenage boys or young men. Both had suffered gunshot wounds and both were pronounced dead at the scene.

“I heard of things like this, but never really witnessed one," Ramirez said.

Earlier Monday night in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood, three men were wounded in a shooting near 87th and S. Wood streets. The three were in a van when an SUV pulled up and opened fire. A 23-year-old man was shot in the head, and is in critical condition, while two others suffered gunshot woulds and were last listed in stable condition .

Victim’s advocate Andrew Holmes says the shooters in the SUV may be connected to another homicide.

"This dark-colored vehicle that discharged may be responsible for a homicide, so were asking anybody with info to give it to the police department," Holmes said.

A 41-year-old male was also killed Monday by trauma to his head after he was hit in the head with a bottle during an altercation, police said. The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, and later pronounced dead.
