CHICAGO -- Two firefighters were injured while responding to a townhouse fire in Chinatown.

Crews arrived at the scene in the 200 block of West 25th Place at about 10:30 a.m.

One firefighter was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The other was in fair to serious condition.

Only a mother and her child were in the building when the fire started. They both made it out safely, but the mother said they lost everything in the fire and are looking for a place to stay.

A fire department spokesman calls the building a total loss.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but there were no working fire detectors in the building.

The fire displaced 12 people.
