Funnyman Steve Harvey got emotional during his show’s recent tribute to the Kings of Comedy and his late-friend Bernie Mac.

Harvey was joined by D.L. Hughley and Cedric the Entertainer for a reunion of the Kings of Comedy for the taping of the Steve Harvey show.

Steve became choked up as he read a proclamation from Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel declaring today “Bernie Mac Day.”

Bernie Mac’s wife Rhonda McCullough Gilmore and his daughter Je’Neice McCullough appeared on the show to talk about the Bernie Mac Foundation, “set up in Bernie’s memory to combat the disease that attacked his lungs and eventually took his life, Sarcoidosis,” the show’s website stated.

The website also went on to explain:

Another legendary comedian, Mike Epps, joined the conversation via satellite, live from Bernie and Rhonda’s alma mater, the Chicago Vocational High School on the Southside of Chicago. As a surprise to Bernie’s family, Mike Epps and the principal of the school revealed that the auditorium will be renamed in Bernie’s honor.

Bernie’s family was also overcome with emotion during the announcement.
