Chicago alderman wants to honor Javier Baez with street sign

CHICAGO — A Chicago alderman wants to honor the Illinois Sportsman of the Year and NLCS co-MVP winner Javier Baez with a street sign.

Ald. Roberto Maldonado, 26th Ward, introduced the ordinance for the sign on Tuesday. He first announced it on Facebook Sunday:

According to the Chicago Tribune, “Javier ‘Javy’ Baez Way” would stretch along West Luis Munoz Marin Drive from Sacramento Avenue to Division Street, along the baseball field in Humboldt Park.

Baez hails from Puerto Rico, and the 26th Ward includes Humboldt Park, which a historically Puerto Rican community.
