Man killed, 13-year-old among 4 injured in West Englewood shooting

CHICAGO – A man was killed and four others wounded, including a 13-year-old boy, in a shooting Monday night on the city’s South Side.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 6700 block of S Winchester in the city’s West Englewood neighborhood when a group was standing in the front yard of a home.

Police say another group walked up and started shooting, then ran away. No one was immediately taken into custody.

Police say a 28-year-old man was shot in the head and died at the scene.

The 13-year-old was transported in critical condition to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to the right thigh. His condition has since stabilized.

Three men in their 20s and 30s also were wounded and taken to hospitals for treatment.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are not yet known.
