CHICAGO -- It's been a good week for Chicago Cubs infielder Javier Baez.

His team advanced to the National League Championship Series, in large, part because of his outstanding defense and strong hitting.

On Friday, Baez received the Sportsman of the Year Award from the State of Illinois.

IL Secretary of State Jesse White gave Baez the award at the Thompson Center.

It was given to Baez in conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month.

With his mother and brother in attendance,  Baez said he was proud to play in the town with so many Latino fans.
